Giving You the Best Home
We educate our customers and gladly help them make the right decisions regarding their remodels and buildings. Modular versus site-built construction has been an ongoing debate since the first manufactured homes were produced in the 1950s. Thankfully, our highly skilled team of construction experts has the ability and education to provide you with both.
Your best plan of action is to educate yourself on the differences in the types of homes. Here are some of the main points to consider when deciding what is the best way to build, and regardless of which course of action you determine to be the best, United Construction will be there to help you build.
What is a Modular Home?
Modular Homes are site-built homes assembled in a factory, and built to meet the Michigan Building Code developed by the International Code Council. Modular Homes meet the required structural inspection standards while still on the factory floor, and meet the required codes for the specific location they are being produced for once delivered on site. They are built using the same materials available to builders and homeowners, instead of items built by the manufacturer. Our Modular Homes are manufactured by Heckaman Homes. What is a Manufactured Home?
This is where the most confusion comes from. Manufactured homes differ from modular and site-built homes because manufactured homes conform to the National Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards (The HUD Code) and are “titled” like all motor vehicles and built on a movable steel frame. Many of the components, such as cabinets and doors are built by the manufacturer, and cannot be matched easily after market. The word Pre-Fab means any home that is built “off-site”, and assembled at the site you choose.
What is a Site Built Home?
A Site Built home is a home built on the site you choose, from the ground up, by experienced home builders. It is often referred to as a “Stick Built” home. The builders follow the plans you choose completely so the home is built exactly the way you planned it.
